Getting to and from Singkil from places other than Medan can be expensive if you want a decent car and ride.

For example. For a Private Car:
Singkil - Bukit Lawang: Rp.1,700.000/ Car for 6 people, 11 hours.
Singkil - Lake Toba: Rp.1,600,000/Car for 6 people, 7 hours.

There is a bus way, but it is complicated, hot and you may wait a long time.
